The CFO as a Participant in Non-Financial Administrative Roles

CFOs are involved in other non-financial administrative activities, such as talent evaluation. A strong partnership with the HR staff is necessary to properly address risks and opportunities involving Finance personnel. Performance evaluation and rewards are now critical in business. As a consequence of the increasing demand for information by the CFO, he/she has to request further detailed information from his/her subordinates. Rewarding key staff in Finance is a relevant issue.

CFOs need to work close with HR people to develop initiatives such as HR in the year 2020. Companies need to have a clear understanding of the talent edge in the next years, which means redrafting talent initiatives. It becomes critical to build leadership pipelines through innovatives strategies.

CFOs are involved in the company-wide HR strategy, working with their peers to assess the proper compensation plan for their teams, conducting internal people satisfaction surveys, employee training, and company integration activities. In terms of people care, evaluating performance and identifying key talent for promotion have become critical roles for the CFO.

CFOs are now closer to the legal advisors for business compliance and risk management mitigation. They are concerned about intellectual property, environmental issues, and contract management.
